Monarchist Terror Targets Free Press

The reactionary forces intent on preserving the oppressive power of the elite continue to do so at the expense of the everyday folk of Breland. Only a few short weeks ago, on the very pages of this storied journal, I called upon the downtrodden people of this proud country to open their eyes to the deceptions of Boranel and his cronies, and to stand up for their right to decide their own fate. And in that short time, the King’s lackeys have been hard at work trying to suppress our voices, intimidating and assaulting multiple members of the Free Press in their desperation to stop progress.

Afraid of anyone who might speak the truth, the forces of stagnation have been feverishly working to find this reporter and silence my pen. At least two members of the press have been kidnapped and interrogated without benefit of the protections guaranteed by the Galifar Code of Justice, and a third has now gone missing. Are Boranel and his dogs going to shut down the entirety of the free press in their desperation to stop the People of Breland from having a say in their own fates? Where will it stop? Will ordinary people on the streets begin to ‘disappear’? Be brought in for ‘questioning’ or ‘re-education’?

And what of the fate of the few members of upper society brave enough to stand with the People? Just yesterday, Councilor Potellas of Middle Central was the target of a vile assassination attempt at his own place of business. Is it a coincidence that he was attacked only days after coming out in support of Prime Minister ir’Clarn and his efforts to make Breland a true democracy? Where will Boranel’s hounds strike next? How long until just talking about reform earns the common citizen a dagger in their throat?

One needs only look as far as the royal palace in Wroat to find the mastermind behind these tyrannical actions. But while Boranel and his brood’s desperation to cling to power are the head of the hydra, there are many lackeys working to implement their plan of suppression and despair.

The most obvious are the King’s Citadel, posing as protectors of Breland, but really only protectors of privilege for the few. The King’s Dark Lanterns operate in the shadows as a barely acknowledged cabal of spys, but who hasn’t heard the rumours of a darker organization within the Lanterns? To whom do these sinister forces answer? Who ensures they are respecting the rights and freedoms guaranteed to all of the children of Galifar?

But what of House Medani, so closely tied to Boranel’s waistcoat despite their laughable claims of neutrality. Everyone knows that Trelib d’Medani is a close confidante of the King, and many have testified to the reality that Medani agents took an active role in supporting Breland’s war effort, despite ‘official records’ that maintain the illusion of the House’s neutrality. Could a Dragonmarked House specializing in subterfuge and spycraft be responsible for the efforts to silence the Press? How far would they go in order to maintain their position of privilege?

I do not have the answers to these questions, good reader. But I promise that my pen will not rest until those behind the kidnappings and murder attempts are exposed and brought to justice.

In the meantime, it is important that we all take action to protect our freedoms and prevent the so-called elites from oppressing our rights and our goals!
